South High School International Dancers, of Sheboygan, recently performed traditional Mexican folk dances at Lakeshore Technical College’s end-of-year celebration, Fiesta LTC.

The dancers performed five distinct dances from different regions of Mexico that included several costume changes.

“We are a high school group who takes pride in educating the public about Mexican traditions through dance,” said Leticia Genson, English Language Learners teacher and international dance instructor at South High School.

LTC students and staff also enjoyed authentic Mexican food, decorations and a Spanish-language song performed by youngsters enrolled in the college’s child care center. Information about Mexico, including student opportunities for studying abroad, also was on display.

The Fiesta LTC event was designed to celebrate student and staff achievements throughout the 2007-08 academic year as well as educate participants about Mexican culture. The event coincided with “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day,” so staff members’ children were able to enjoy the event as well.

The event was sponsored by LTC, the Student Government Association/Student Life and the Diversity Committee. For more information about LTC, call 888-GO-TO-LTC (888-468-6582) or log onto www.gotoltc.edu.
