| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 08/14/08 CLEVELAND, WI– Lakeshore Technical College is offering a 44-hour Applied Safety Compliance Certificate Program from Sept. 25 through Oct. 23. The program introduces essential safety principles related to implementing mandated Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards and best safety practices. The principles are reinforced through hands-on demonstrations and applied scenarios. The comprehensive program is designed for key personnel who are assigned accountability for safety and health processes within a company. Participants will be better prepared to understand OSHA regulations, recognize hazards, implement programs and procedures and establish safe practices. All classes will meet from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the days listed, with the exception of Sept. 26, at LTC’s Cleveland campus in the Public Safety Building. All classes must be completed to receive the program certificate. Applied Safety Compliance – Part I (Class #60886) consists of three classes. ● OSHA General Industry Regulations Training – Section I will be held Sept. 25. The class will provide instruction on a range of OSHA safety standards. Organizations must comprehend these standards to meet the federal compliance mandates. The session also will introduce OSHA’s inspection and penalty criteria. ● OSHA General Industry Regulations Training – Section II will be held Sept. 26 from 8 a.m. to noon. The class will present continued instruction on the primary safety standards emphasized by OSHA’s outreach training efforts. Record-keeping requirements will be clarified through injury case scenarios and the use of forms 300 and 300A. ● Computer Resources and Safety Inspection/Audits will be held Oct. 2. The class will provide hands-on computer access to navigate the OSHA Web site. Injury benchmarking, OSHA regulatory interpretations and violation histories of companies also will be covered. The session will conclude with a hazard violation workshop and mock inspection to include electrical and machine guarding evaluations. Applied Safety Compliance – Part II (Class #60887) consists of three classes. ● Chemical Hazard and Fall Protection Concepts will be held Oct. 9. The class will cover common physical hazards of chemicals. The class also will include the assessment, selection and use of personal protection equipment and the appropriate use of basic chemical response materials and techniques. Fall protection issues will be discussed as part of OSHA’s General Industry “Walking and Working Surfaces” standard and will be reinforced with equipment demonstrations. ● Confined Space, Fire Extinguishers, Forklift Training, Lockout/Tagout Practice will be held Oct. 16. The class will cover required procedures and equipment for the key roles of confined space entry attendant, entrant and supervisor. The fire extinguisher computer simulator will allow participants to practice extinguishing various types of fire within the safety of a classroom. Forklift Training (Powered Industrial Truck) classroom training will be satisfied, and participants will have the opportunity to operate a forklift to reinforce safe operation concepts. A hands-on lockout/tagout laboratory will test participants’ knowledge of common lockout devices. Evaluating appropriate lockout/tagout written procedures and conducting an annual periodic inspection also will be covered. ● Industrial Hygiene/Respiratory Principles and Practices will be held Oct. 23. The class will introduce the basics of industrial hygiene used in sampling, monitoring and worker exposure to interpret standards and understand test results. To recognize limitations and capabilities of the equipment, participants will experience hands-on use of air monitors, noise dosimeters and colorimetric sampling tubes. Respiratory protection standards will be reviewed, and participants will be able to try out various respirators. Upon program completion, participants will receive an LTC Applied Safety Compliance Certificate, an OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Outreach Training Card, an OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Outreach Training Card (prerequisite for 501 Trainer class), a Forklift (Powered Industrial Truck) Classroom Training Certificate and 4.4 Continuing Education Units. The program is recommended for human resource managers, safety managers, committee members, supervisors and any other interested individuals.
