Lakeshore Technical College Board Member John Lukas has been named the Wisconsin Technical College District Boards Association 2008 Board Member of the Year.

Lukas was presented the award at the Winter 2008 DBA banquet in Green Lake, Wis. The award recognizes a district board member who made outstanding contributions to technical and vocational education through DBA activities on local, state, regional and national levels.

The DBA represents Wisconsin’s 144 local college trustees serving statewide in all sixteen technical college districts. Each Wisconsin technical college district was able to nominate only one individual. LTC nominated Lukas for his exemplary dedication to LTC and the DBA.

Lukas has served on the LTC Board since 2001, and is involved in four LTC Advisory Committees: Youth Apprenticeship, Tool and Die/Machinist Apprenticeship, Industrial Maintenance, and Machine Tool.

He is the co-owner of LDI Industries, Manitowoc, which has sponsored K-12 Youth Apprenticeship students for 13 years and LTC Adult Apprenticeship students for 19 years with more than 25 graduates. Lukas also is an active member of the Lakeshore Area School-to-Work Consortium and is involved with the Chamber of Manitowoc County activities.

Lukas is president of the DBA and also has served as vice president and secretary-treasurer. Lukas has been a member of the association’s executive committee and board of directors since 2003, and has served on several subcommittees.

He has participated in every DBA quarterly meeting since his term began in 2001, and every Board of Directors annual planning meeting 2003-07. Since 2001, he has attended ten WTCS State Board meetings and two State Board planning meetings.

Lukas also networks with various state and federal legislators and has attended numerous national legislative summits on behalf of LTC.

In recognition of his commitment to technical education, Lukas has received many awards, including the Youth Apprentice Business Partner of the Year for Manitowoc County, the Governor’s Exemplary Employer Award,  LTC’s Apprenticeship Medallion Award and LTC’s Educational Leadership Award.

The DBA promotes excellence in technical college trusteeship through member education and development programs, advocacy for technical colleges, promotion of college best practices and encouragement of collaboration and partnerships among the colleges and between the colleges and public and private partners.
