Lakeshore Technical College Adult Basic Education Instructor Fay Wagner recently received the 2008 Governor’s Financial Literacy Award. Wagner was one of five individuals selected by Governor Jim Doyle’s Council on Financial Literacy to receive the award. The award recognizes excellence in the advancement of financial literacy among Wisconsin citizens. First Lady of Wisconsin and Honorary Chair of the Governor’s Council on Financial Literacy Jessica Doyle presented the award to Wagner at the Executive Residence in Madison. Wagner was chosen based on the following criteria: innovative implementation, demonstrated measurable results, collaboration with partners and scope – either statewide or potential to be statewide or focused to need-based groups. Wagner’s nomination application stated: “Fay Wagner is well versed in the subject matter of financial literacy and has much knowledge and day-to-day living advice to offer adult students in becoming financially responsible and independent.” Some of Wagner’s accomplishments include developing and teaching financial literacy courses and becoming an active member of the Money Smart Planning Committee for Manitowoc and Calumet counties. Wagner was instrumental in helping the committee plan a series of free financial literacy seminars that were offered to the general public.
