What is online/flexible learning?
Online/flexible learning is an alternative to the traditional classroom
setting. It allows students who are unable to attend the classroom
on a regular basis to still achieve their educational goals.
LTC offers distance education through:
- "Learn on Your Own" Classes (Video, Print, or CD-ROM)
- Interactive Television Classes (ITV)
- Online Classes (Internet)
- Blended Classes
What are Interactive Television Classes (ITV)?
Interactive television, or ITV, classes offer students from different
areas the opportunity to take a class together without having to
meet in one place. An instructor meets with students in a classroom
at the originating site while other students communicate from designated
remote sites using interactive television. Through the television
cameras, the instructor can hear and see the students at remote sites and they can communicate with the instructor. For a list of ITV classes click here.
What are Online Classes (Internet)?
Online classes can be taken using a computer and a modem to connect
to a remote database or the Internet. Classes usually begin at the
start of the semester and must be completed by the end of semester.
Assignments are posted on the Web and communication between the
instructor and students takes place via e-mail or telephone.

What are "Learn on Your Own"
Classes (Video, Print, or CD-ROM)?
"Learn on Your Own" Classes (Video, Print, or CD-ROM)
are designed to offer you greater convenience and learning options
to fit your busy schedule without having to travel a long distance.
They are designed for the adult learner who wants to earn credit
for an associate degree program or for professional and personal
enrichment. For a list of "Learn
on Your Own" Classes (Video, Print, or CD-ROM) click here.
What are Blended Classes?
A blended class is a class that combines traditional classroom instruction.
Some blended classes will meet one week in class and the next week
class will be done online.
Are online/flexible learning classes
right for me?
Although online/flexible learning sounds great to most people, it
really takes stronger independent study skills. You may be a good
candidate if you are:
- Organized and able to set priorities.
- Proficient with time management skills.
- Committed to at least 3 hours per credit each week
of work.
- Self-disciplined and work independently.
- Able to progress while waiting for a response from
an instructor.
- Willing to ask for help.
Online learning students should be familiar with a computer, keyboarding, email and using an Internet browser to navigate the World Wide Web.
