MODULE 2:  HARDWARE, SOFTWARE, AND INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER REQUIREMENTS

Note: Please do not send us Microsoft Works documents, we cannot view them. You can send Microsoft Word, Corel WordPerfect, or rich text files (.rtf).

Technology plays an important role in the successful completion of your degree program.  The hardware, software and Internet Service Provide you choose can have a significant impact on how well you perform within the courses.  If you do not have the proper equipment, compatible software, and a reliable service provider, you can become frustrated and end up spending too much time on technical issues when you should be spending that time on course work.

In addition, email is the primary means by which you will communicate with your instructor and classmates.  You must have a reliable Internet Service Provider (ISP) and a working email to take an online course.   We strongly encourage students to acquire their own, individual email account at home.

In order to receive vital information pertaining to course content, assignments, and group work, you may need to:

  • Access your course as needed.

  • Access email several times a week.

  • Use the Internet for research.

  • Participate in web-based discussion/chat during evenings and
    weekends.

To help you in meeting these technology requirements, we’ve developed an easy-to-follow guide of hardware and software requirements.  If you are buying a new computer, print the guide and take it along to make sure you get the hardware and software you need.  If you already own a computer, use the guide to verify that your hardware and software is compatible with ours.  If you are not sure contact Heather.

Computer system.  Please complete the web-based survey. It is very short but will help us identify areas where we might be able to help with technical issues or offer some useful resources. Copy the survey then paste it into Word. Complete it and send it to online.courses@gotoltc.edu. Go to the survey now.
