Progressive farm operator series begins in January at LTC

CLEVELAND, WI–
Lakeshore Technical College is offering farm operators the chance to challenge their current thinking and plan for a more profitable future with the upcoming Progressive Operators Seminar Series.
Sessions are scheduled for Jan. 15, Feb. 12 and March 12. All sessions are held in the Lake Michigan Conference Room on LTC's Cleveland campus.
The January session focuses on long-term dairy positioning. University of Wisconsin professor and farm management specialist Bruce Jones addresses the question, "Where will milk be produced and by whom?" while Certified Public Accountant Paul Mulder, managing partner and owner in Genske, Mulder and Company, will discuss "The State of Western Dairying." The January session is held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15.
The February session focuses on cost production, labor efficiency and dairy financial benchmarking for the industry's top performers. Dr. Brad Hilty, business and information management specialist with the Penn State Dairy Alliance, addresses "How You Manage Your Business," and Pete Kappelman, chairman of the board for Land O' Lakes, answers the question, "How does the current global economy affect Midwest dairy industry?" The session is held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12.
The March session focuses on risk management and your profitable future. Dr. Ken Bailey, formerly with Penn State Dairy Markets and Policy, discusses the history and future of risk management, and a producer panel and participant discussion will focus on the question, "How have we survived during this unprecedented downturn?" The session is held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, March 12.
