LTC offers seminars on ammonia response

Lakeshore Technical College will offer three seminars dealing with ammonia exposure response.
The annual "AmmoniaRefresher" seminar is for people who have completed a technician level class with an emphasis on ammonia. The class will review the competencies listed in OSHA's Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard, including ammonia toxicology, hazard recognition, risk evaluation, and monitoring for ammonia.
The seminar will take place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 25 in the Public Safety Building at LTC's campus in Cleveland. Cost is $225; refer to class No. 63570.
A new seminar, "Incident Command Ammonia Release," is for those who have completed basic incident command training and want specific skill training in overseeing a response to an ammonia release. The training focuses on exercising control at an ammonia release incident scene, and can also be taken as an annual incident command refresher. Students will participate in the response to a simulated Level A ammonia release. Completion of emergency response operations or technician level training and basic incident command is a prerequisite.

The 24-hour "Ammonia Emergency Response Technician Level"seminar is designed to meet the competencies of technician level training, as specified in OSHA's Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard. The curriculum is designed with 60 percent classroom and 40 percent hands-on exercises with monitors, respirators, personal protective equipment, D-con and simulated emergency situations.
The seminar covers ammonia toxicology, hazard recognition and properties of ammonia, monitoring for ammonia, personal protective clothing, respiratory protection, risk assessment, work practices and standard operating procedures.
Medical clearance forms are required. The seminar will take place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 30– Sept. 1 in the Public Safety Building at LTC's campus in Cleveland. Cost is $545; refer to class No. 63568.
