CLEVELAND, WI —

Lakeshore Technical College President Dr. Paul Carlsen has been elected to the American Association of Community Colleges board of directors. The AACC is a national advocacy organization representing more than 1,000 two-year community colleges across the country that serve nearly 12 million students. Board members are elected by CEO members of the association.

“That Dr. Carlsen was elected by his peers across the country to serve on the AACC Board is not just a testament to his leadership, but also to the caliber of our college and the impact we have on our students and our communities. Paul’s dedication to our mission will undoubtedly enrich the discussions and decisions made at the national level, driving positive change for technical and community colleges,” says Lakeshore Board Chair John Wyatt.

Carlsen, who was 33 when selected in 2017 as Lakeshore’s fourth president, says he wanted to serve on the board to represent his generation. “As one of the first millennials to become a community college president, it is time for me and others from my generation to step up and maintain the momentum of AACC’s mission to build a nation of learners.”

Carlsen’s campaign focused on Lakeshore’s accomplishments related to increased enrollments at Lakeshore, revenue generation through grants and donations, becoming a leader in initiatives such as implementing competency-based education and securing authorization for Lakeshore to offer associate of arts and associate of science degrees, and prioritizing human development.

Carlsen begins his three-year term July 1.
