From Below the Sea to Above the Clouds

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Paul, of Wauwatosa, is one of 233 graduates who earned degrees this fall from Lakeshore Technical College. LTC's Winter Commencement was held on December 19.

CLEVELAND, WI –

The goal for many graduates is to find a career and establish themselves with both feet firmly planted on the ground. New LTC graduate Seth Paul has a different perspective on that goal.

After graduating from Milwaukee Lutheran High School, Seth pursued his love of scuba diving by enrolling in the Commercial Dive Academy in Jacksonville, Florida. A year later, he began his career in the commercial diving field, performing underwater welding tasks, bridge inspections and a variety of underwater construction projects.

"It's exciting work but there just wasn't enough of it to make a steady living," said Paul. "It was feast or famine with work and when I wasn't working, I was spending money and finding it tough to manage a living. I knew I needed to find a new career."

Paul's father is a Physician's Assistant at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee and suggested nursing could give him the excitement he was looking for in a career. After initially resisting the idea, Paul began to imagine the possibilities.

"Nursing is a big umbrella with a lot of different opportunities to find a niche," says Paul. "After looking at a few programs I found LTC and I could enroll the next semester. I really liked that I could take some courses online and other classes were small enough that lectures were more like conversations than anything else. It was a great way to learn."

Seth, 27, will start his career in pediatric in the Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital in Milwaukee.

"I was able to start there as a CNA and my LTC experience helped me land an internship in the ICU," says Paul. "I now have a position as an R.N. waiting for me there as soon as I complete my boards."

Paul isn't viewing that as his final destination. His goal is to return to school, earn a bachelors' degree and also enroll in a paramedic program in order to eventually get into flight nursing.

"Flight nursing would be great not only because it is an exciting and fulfilling career but also because it has great flexibility," says Paul. "I can find time to do some recreational diving and maybe start my own company doing some light commercial diving."

Seth Paul joins 232 other graduates who also earned degrees. They are listed by their hometown:
